Kelly's the hero after marathon playoff with Keeble

Just a year ago Patrick Kelly suffered the agony of losing the British Boys Championship at an extra hole. In the Kent sunshine he landed a national title when he won the Carris Trophy, supported by Titleist, after a marathon playoff with Bobby Keeble.

Kelly stays ahead but Keeble closes in with 67

Patrick Kelly wasn't sure if he was a good front-runner, having never previously led a major competition. But he received the perfect answer with a 69 to lead by two with a round left of the English Boys under 18 Championship, supported by Titleist.

A host of eagles and birdies punctuated the third round of the Carris Trophy, supported by Titleist, at Broadstone at the end of which Matthew Fitzpatrickhad taken charge of the championship, taking a two shot lead into tomorrow's final round.

Italians set a hot pace at damp Broadstone

While Irish eyes were smiling at The Open on Sunday, it was the Italians who were grinning broadly at Broadstone with Corrado De Stefani, Giulio Castagnara and Edoardo Torrieri in the leading eight of the Carris Trophy, supported by Titleist, at the halfway point. They also won the Nations Cup.
