England face Ireland in Seniors Home Internationals showdown
England will meet Ireland at Southerndown in Wales today to decide the destination of the Seniors Home Internationals.
Both teams are unbeaten after the first two days of competition and England will be aiming to halt Ireland’ s march to a fifth successive title.
In yesterday’s matches, the Irish overcame Scotland 5-4 while England beat Wales 6-3, repeating their scoreline of the previous day over the Scots.
The foundation of England’s win was established in the morning when they won all three foursomes games.
The all-Hertfordshire pair of John Ambridge and Doug Cameron beat Jeff Thomas and Paul Bloomfield 3 and 2 while Charles Banks and Les Bruckner achieved the same scoreline over Glyn Rees and Gary Huggett.
It was left to Tyrone Carter and Chris Reynolds to complete the whitewash with a 4 and 3 victory over Nigel Evans and Andrew Williams.
The singles proved much closer and resulted in a 3-3 scoreline with the contests between Andrew Stracey and Rees and between Banks and Evans finishing all square.
Bruckner maintained his unbeaten run with a 4 and 3 win over Huggett and Ambridge overcame Thomas 5 and 4.
But Wales took the other two games, Bloomfield beating Cameron 3 and 2, while Williams secured a 4 and 3 victory over Reynolds.
