England under 16s ease to victory over Spain
England’s completed an overwhelming victory over Spain in the annual one-day under 16 international at Pannal near Harrogate.
The mixed team of four girls and four boys won 9½ – 2½ after building a useful 3-1 lead from the morning foursomes.
That provided a solid platform for the eight singles in which England dropped just one match and a half.
Ashleigh Greenham from Essex completed the biggest victory with a 4 and 3 win over Ana Pelaez, while, in a clean sweep of the girls, the Lancashire pair of Sophie Lamb and Eloise Healey and Warwickshire's Victoria Mallett all won.
The boys' games were close, Billy Spooner from Lincolnshire (image © Tom Ward), securing the best victory, 2 and 1 over Ivan Cantero.
Sott Godfrey, one of the England Golf coaches with the team commented: "It was a very convincing win and there were some very good individual performances."
