Georgia’s challenge ends in British semi-final

Georgia Hall’s fine challenge in the women’s British amateur championship finally came to an end in the semi-finals at Carnoustie, where the England international lost 3/2 to Curtis Cup star Stephanie Meadow.

Both made a nervy start to the match but it was the Irish player who won the first hole and she was two up after three.

Georgia, 16, (image © Leaderboard Photography) won the fourth but conceded the fifth to go back to two down. She came straight back, however, to win the sixth with a par and stayed only one down until the 11th, which she lost to a birdie.

The next four holes were halved, but the match ended on the 16th where a par was good enough for Stephanie to claim her place in the final. She will play Rocio Sanchez Lobato of Spain who defeated Perrine Delacour of France by two holes in the other semi-final.

Georgia Hall in British championship semis

30 June 2012

England international Georgia Hall (image © Leaderboard Photography) has reached today's semi-finals of the women’s British amateur championship at Carnoustie and takes on Curtis Cup star Stephanie Meadow of Ireland.

Yesterday Georgia, 16, first came from behind to win her third round match against France's Isabelle Boineau. She was three down at the turn to and was still two down with three to play.

She won one back and then squared the contest at the 18th by getting down in two shots from 80-yard range. At first extra hole Georgia again got down from 80-yard for a par 4, which was good enough to win the hole and the match.

In the quarter finals she got in the groove early in the quarter-finals and was never threatened in winning by 6/4 over Amanda Strang (Sweden).

Georgia’s excellent form over the past few months has seen her rocket up the world rankings to No 19.

Meanwhile, English champion Kelly Tidy bowed out in the third round when she was beaten 4/2 by Perrine Delacour of France. It ended a great run for Kelly, who was the 2010 British champion.
