Elizabeth Mallett scores record win in Whittington Trophy
England girl international Elizabeth Mallett won the ladies’ Whittington Trophy at Whittington Heath, Staffordshire, by six shots – helped by a new course record.
The 17-year-old from Sutton Coldfield ladies posted a first round score of two-under 70 before adding a five-under par 67, which clipped a shot off the previous standard set by Somerset’s Hannah Grant.
She finished six shots ahead of former Curtis Cup player Hannah Barwood and 2011 winner, Alex Peters, and claimed the trophy for the first time, having lost out last year in a three-way play-off.
