The County Union is also the representative body in the County that acts in conjunction with the English Golf Union to administer the interests of amateur golfers throughout the Country. The maintenance of the uniform system of handicapping and the operation the CONGU Standard Scratch Scheme on behalf of the Council of National Golf Unions is also vested in the County Union.
All male members of affiliated Clubs throughout the County may become Individual County members of the County Union and are encouraged to do so. By this means participants in the game can more easily take an interest in and have closer association with, the administration of golfing activities in the Country in general and the County in particular.
